Homemade vanilla sugar

Initially published on 20/05/2011 Cut a vanilla bean at its two extremities (do not split it). Put it in a glass jar. Fill with sugar. This will flavor your sugar for years and replace ordinary - chemical - vanilla sugar. You can also put in it the beans you actually split and used in recipes. It does not replace a real bean but in recipes that just need vanilla sugar it's perfect!

Make it last longer!

Initially published on 12/05/2011 And by it, I mean your dishwashing liquid. Here is a very simple recipe I found on the French blog untrucparjour and tested: When there is only a fifth of liquid left in the bottle, fill it with water. You've done that before and it was so liquid that it all disappeared within two days, huh? The secret is to add 1 to 3 coffee spoon of salt (the cheapest you have), and it will make the liquid thicker (you can add salt if not thick enough). Then shake it. I tried it about a month ago and there is still some left now. Like it was a brand new bottle (which means one less to pay for!). It seems like it works for shower gel as well but for every food-product you use for skin, buy organic. NB: if your dish liquid is "konsentrert", you don?t have to wait until you?ve almost finished the bottle: you can make your own liquid in another bottle.

Being green when flying

Initially published on 12/05/11 Yes, I know that if you really want to "be green", the best you can do is to not fly. Of course you can compensate your carbon emissions (also said "carbon offset") by giving money to an association that will plant trees for you (or will set up solar panels in an african village) but this does not solve the problem; especially since it will take about ten years to your tree to actually absorb your carbon.  A way of getting a clean, not environment but conscience? Maybe, but it may be better than doing nothing at all; let's call it the "less worse solution". Some links from Grønn Hverdag: http://etiskforbruk.no/Mitt%20klima http://www.co2.klif.no/ So no, I do not have miracle solution to turn plane into an ecological transport means, but this article is mostly about not make it worse, and to adopt a responsible behavior in an airport. First of all, you don't need to print your el...

How to say no to "uadressert reklame"?

Very simple! Just put this sticker on your mailbox: You can find it on the environmental association Grønn Hverdag's  website . It's free but have to pay the shipping. Cheaper and more environmental-friendly, just come to their office. In Tromsø, it's located Skippergata 11 . You won't be bothered anymore with advertising papers.
